The little rescue with a big heart

Our primary mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and find loving, permanent homes for homeless dogs, specifically dogs in shelters at-risk of euthanasia and dogs whose owners can no longer care for them. We believe in compassionate rescue when the dog is enduring inhumane living conditions or likely to be deemed less adoptable due to age, health, emotional state, or breed. We ensure that all the dogs we take into our rescue, regardless of individual needs, are cared for with love and compassion for the duration of their lives.

K9 Kismet Dog Rescue

In August, Cowboy was diagnosed with subcutaneous hemangiosarcoma, an agressive cancer with high metastasis rates. Our vet did surgery to remove the cancer, but due to the size and location of the tumor, he was unable to get clear margins. Sadly, the tumor grew back and spread with a vengeance, invading the deeper layers of tissue and musculature. Additional complicated surgery with lengthy recovery was considered, but when we learned it would likely only give him a few extra months, we made the heartbreaking decision to forgo additional surgery to give him as much quality time with his fosters as possible.

A few weeks ago, Cowboyโ€™s tumor started to bleed out. We were able to control the bleeding temporarily, but we knew this meant Cowboy didnโ€™t have much time left with us. On Friday, Cowboyโ€™s rescue family gathered to spend one last afternoon with our beautiful boy. It was an afternoon filled with fun, love, cuddles, and every special treat he could eat.

Cow would melt peopleโ€™s hearts on a regular basis because his love language involved gentle physical contact: On walks and jogs, heโ€™d nudge his fostersโ€™ hands to let them know heโ€™s having fun, he gave the politest kisses, and when he took treats, it was in the softest way possible. He was most content with a squeaky toy and long, guilt-free naps stretched out on his back. (In that position is actually how we met him, in his cramped concrete abode at the shelter.) Cow was the boy who could light up a room with his big grin and it is his sweet face that weโ€™ll always remember him.

Adopted and returned twice, Cowโ€™s doting fosters helped us keep the promise we made to him the day we made him a pack member. They are the consistency he deserved and have been there for him (and us) every step of the way. For that, we will be forever grateful.

Thank you for letting us love you, Cow. Run free now, sweet boy.

We love when people step up to help any dog in need, but when they step up to help a long-stay dog, itโ€™s truly an extra special moment.

Weโ€™re thrilled to announce that Princess Lula has landed herself fosters who have a track record of dedicating themselves to helping dogs thrive in the home environment. They already love and appreciate her in ways that make us excited for the road ahead. Based on how Princess Lula responded mere moments into meeting them, weโ€™d say she feels it too. Sheโ€™s back on track to a forever home, and to say weโ€™re elated is a massive understatement!

A huge, heartfelt thank you to our friends @k9kommittee for going above and beyond to help Princess Lula get ready for this next leg of her rescue journey! Shoutouts to her previous foster mom, all of her aunties who helped us care for her, and our supporters who shared her story! You all helped make this happen.

Have space in your โค๏ธ and ๐Ÿก for a dog in need? Please consider becoming a K9 Kismet Foster. Remember, we pay ALL expenses, so fostering a dog for our rescue costs you nothing.

When you adopt a puppy, you expect to spend many years teaching them new things, having a constant companion, watching them discover the world, and holding their paw when they grow old. You don’t expect to have to make the heartbreaking decision to let their body rest and their soul fly when they’re not yet 3. We can’t imagine the pain Zia’s family is feeling at this tremendous loss, but we hope they take solace in knowing they fought hard with her every step of the way. They are truly the bravest of people, and we are in awe of their love and their selflessness. Run free now, beautiful Zia. We love you, baby girl. Always. ๐ŸŒˆ

I wish for a world where all animals could have the life full of love Zia had. Today, we confirmed the worst ๐Ÿ’” baby girl was fighting an extremely rare disease. Thank you, @bruce_zebal @brennared for being brave enough to shatter your hearts so hers didnโ€™t have to break. Thank you to everyone who rallied for her! Zia is going to have a beautiful army of tattoos that allowed her a fighting chanceโค๏ธ

At 6:41pm today, we had to say goodbye to our beautiful baby girl, Zia. I held her paw, cradled her head, and told her how much she was loved as she passed. She gave one last big sigh and left. Goodbye to our sweet girl. Thank you so much for the short time we had together. See MoreSee Less

Oh how sad for you. I’m sorry Zia died so young. She’s a gorgeous girl.

My heart hurts with your hearts. It is so hard to say goodbye. May you rest in peace knowing Zia is totally free. There is no more sorrow…no more pain. She is at peace. You gave this to her. And she thanks you all.

This breaks my heart I am so grateful to have been able to help take care of them when they were born!!! So very sorry to the family and there loss

I'm sorry for your loss. ๐Ÿ’”

So sorry for your loss ๐Ÿ’” I first met the 12 pack at 6 weeks old, and helped out at their 2nd foster home. Hugs to Zia’s family!

I am so very sorry to hear of Zia's passing. Maybelline & her 12 pack were truly special from the start & so many people came together to give Maybelline & all her pups the best life possible. It's heartbreaking to say goodbye especially at such a young age & my heart goes out to her devoted family. She's now spreading her wings & has become another Guardian Angel to watch over all the dogs still in need helping them to find the love & safety they all deserve. God speed Little One, you will forever be in our hearts. ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿพ

Heartbreaking ๐Ÿ’” sending big ((hugs)) to all that loved her ๐Ÿ˜ข

Foster

As a foster-based rescue, our primary need is short and long-term fosters. Fostering costs you nothing; we cover all expenses. Whether youโ€™re a seasoned foster who can handle some of our toughest cases, or a first-timer looking to ease into the process, we want to hear from you.

Adopt

By providing a forever home for a dog in rescue, you're helping to free up a foster home, which allows us to help another dog in need. The dogs in our care are fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered (unless medically waived), microchipped, and receive regular wellness exams, preventative treatment, specialty care as needed. If youโ€™re interested in meeting a K9 Kismet pack member, please fill out the adoption application to begin the process.

donate

As a 100% volunteer-run organization, your tax-deductible donation goes directly to the dogs in our care. It provides funds for everything from life saving surgeries to ID tags. Every dollar has purpose and is put to work for the dogs we serve. Help us say yes to the next dog in need.
